Title: Ultrastructural Analysis of Spine Plasticity
Abstract: Dendritic spines are the primary target of excitatory synapses in the brain. The organization of spines determines their contribution to the integration of synaptic signals in the parent dendrite. The density and shape of spines are influenced by the level of synaptic activity. Enhancement or reduction of synaptic activity correlates with corresponding changes in the morphology of dendritic spines. The structural plasticity of dendritic spines has provided new insights into how information is stored in the brain.
