Title: FINDING WAYS TO EASE TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN THE REGION
Abstract: The article looks at the implementation of a variety of programs designed to alleviate congestion in the region. These programs - which fall under the umbrella of traffic mitigation - include three kinds of activities: 1) transportation management improvements that permit traffic to flow better; 2) demand management measures that encourage people to satisfy travel needs by means other than the single-occupant auto, including employer programs that reward transit users and carpoolers; and, 3) land-use planning that created an environment friendly to transit, carpools, bicycles, and pedestrians.
