Title: Nuclear safety and the Ministry of Industrial and Scientific Development
Abstract: On March 13, 1973, the Ministry of Industrial and Scientific Development created by decree the Central Service for the Safety of Nuclear Installations responsible for the study, definition, and effecting of the ministerial policy on nuclear safety (accident prevention and the minimizing of their possible effects). This new service plays an essential role in the authorization prior to the construction of basic nuclear installations, and the development of technical legislation concerning these installations and their surveillance. This service provides two complementary services: documentation on problems connected with nuclear installation safety and information for the general public. The important place of the CEA in these matters is discussed. A senior consultant committee was established for nuclear safety issues. (FR)
