A factor of a number is an exact divisor of that number. A root of a number is one of the equal factors that, if multiplied together, produce the number. The square root of a number is one of two equal factors that, if multiplied together, produce that number. The cube root of a number is one of three equal factors that if multiplied together, produce that number. A fourth root of a number is one of four equal factors; the 5th root is one of five, and so on. The square root is the one most frequently used in mathematics. The sign indicating square root is √, it is placed in front of the number whose root is to be found. √25 mean the square root of 25. It is called the square root sign or radical sign. To indicate a root other than square root a small figure called the index of the root is placed in the radical sign.Read More
