Title: Integrated nutrient management in carrot (Daucus carota L.)
Abstract: A field trial was conducted regarding the supplementation of chemical fertilizer through the use of organic and biofertilizer, during Rabi season 2004–05 and 2005–06 to investigate the effect of various treatments viz., FYM 20 t/ha, vermicompost 4 t/ha, FYM 10 t/ha + vermicompost 2 t/ha, green manure 5 t/ha + Azotobacter and PSB 5 kg/ha each, FYM 10 t/ha + Azotobacter and PSB 5 kg/ha each, 1/2 recommended NPK + FYM 10 t/ha + Azotobacter and PSB 5 kg/ha each, 1/2 recommended NPK + green manure 2.5 t/ha + Azotobacter and PSB 5 kg/ha each, 1/2 recommended NPK + vermicompost 2 t/ha + Azotobacter and PSB 5 kg/ha and recommended dose of NPK @ 80:60:60 kglha on growth and yield of carrot. Among these treatment application of 1/2 NPK + green leaf manure 2.5 t/ha + Azotobacter + PSB 5 kg/ha each resulted in significant improvement in plant height (61.39 em), length of leaves (45 em), number of leaves per plant (12.08), fresh weight of leave per plant (25.92 gm), root length (16.37 em), diameter of root (2.85 em) and yield (242.85 q/ha). The cost-benefit ratio (1:1.95) was also maximum in this treatment.
