Title: Bituminous surfacing for roads in populous villages in Thailand
Abstract: It is generally known that many problems arise from unpaved roads particularly when they pass through populated areas. Without restraint on budgets, ideally, these problems can be simply solved by introducing proper highway construction projects. However, the availability of finances in developing countries is limited. In addition, the number of road users in the remote areas are considerably low. Thus improving these roads may not be economically feasible. To alleviate these problems the Department of Highways has set up a working group to draw up a supplementary road improvement programme for remote populous areas. The standard has been prepared in such a way that future major improvements can economically and easily be done without undue alternation. The contents in this programme can then be used as standard design and construction procedure throughout the country.
