Abstract: This chapter discusses the African shipping market, African ports, policy issues and implementation challenges. There has been a rapid growth in Africa's maritime traffic. Africa has many medium sized and small ports; but, by world standards, Africa has a low concentration of ports. World shipping and trade patterns are changing. Port facilities are required to handle larger ships in a quicker and more efficient manner. Port planning, pricing, regulation, and management all play an important role in African ports and shipping.
