Title: Inside Back Cover: Membrane‐Vesicle‐Mediated Interbacterial Communication Activates Silent Secondary Metabolite Production (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 42/2023)
Abstract: Bacterial membrane vesicles (MVs), which transport small molecules, proteins, and nucleotides within a lipid bilayer, serve as communication facilitators. Toshiyuki Wakimoto et al. revealed in their Research Article (e202307304) that MVs-mediated interbacterial communication triggers silent secondary metabolite production in various bacteria. Particularly striking is the competitive interaction between Burkholderia multivorans and Xenorhabdus innexi, involving the exchange of their respective MVs and the MVs-induced secondary metabolites.
