Title: Thermal performance of cool roofs incorporated with phase change materials: A review
Abstract: The heat transfer through the building envelope is crucial in maintaining thermal comfort. Energy consumption from the air-conditioning systems to achieve comfort in the buildings is a significant problem for dwellers. Cool roof technology with Phase change materials is the most effective and energy-efficient technique for building applications. This present study is based on applying phase change materials with cool roof systems (Cool materials, high reflective coatings) and its impact on the energy-saving opportunities and thermal comfort inside the dwellings. The primary aim of this review paper is to assess the effect of a cool roof integrated with a phase-change material (PCM) to reduce energy consumption and maintain a comfort level in the buildings. The outcomes of the review proved that cool roof systems with PCMs significantly reduced energy consumption from 10 to 27 % with lower indoor temperatures in the range of 2–7.5 °C.
