Title: Oxygen adsorption on CuNi(110) studied with leed and hreels: evidence for an oxygen induced reconstruction with a p(2 × 2) overlayer
Abstract: The adsorption of oxygen on CuNi(110) alloy surfaces was studied up to coverages of θo ≈ 0.5 with LEED, HREELS and AES. At 300 K, the only ordered oxygen overlayer detectable with LEED is (2 × 1). For higher temperature, 400–700 K, evidence is found for the formation of a new overlayer with p(2 × 2) symmetry, which is absent on the unalloyed Cu(110) and Ni(110) surfaces. Based on HREELS results, structural models are proposed for the O(2 × 1) overlayer on CuNi(110) as well as for the p(2 × 2) structure.
