Title: A novel hybrid composites based on biopolyamide 10.10 with basalt/aramid fibers: Mechanical and thermal investigation
Abstract: Biocomposites were produced using biobased polyamide (Bio-PA) and two different types of fibers (aramid and basalt). The impact of artificial and mineral fibers on the mechanical properties was assessed in detail, as well as their effects on hybridization. Improvements in mechanical properties were observed following introduction of fibers into the polymeric matrix. Addition of aramid fiber increased the tensile strength by about 15%, and the basalt fiber by over 60%. Young's modulus also significantly increased compared to the base material - applied 10% of aramid fibers caused almost 40% growth, and basalt fibers over 90%. Synergistic influence of hybrid reinforcement was also presented. Experimental results were compared with modeling parameters. Thermal analysis was also performed to determine impact of fibers on the degree of crystallinity and melting temperature.
