Title: Quantitative Analysis of Antibiotics Use in Patients of the Surgical Department at Dr. Slamet Martodirdjo Hospital, Pamekasan
Abstract: The high use of antibiotics could lead to antibiotic resistance by microorganism which is difficult problem to handle. Furthermore, the level of microbial resistance is closely related to the quantity of antibiotic use. The duration of therapy as well as the dosage should be in accordance with the therapeutic guidelines in order to have an optimal treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quantity of antibiotic use in the surgical department. This study used an analytic observational design with cross sectional retrospective approach. The subjects were selected through the medical surgical records of patients in May and June 2018. The results of antibiotic mainly used at the hospital was Ceftriaxone at 160.15 DDD/100 Patient-days in May 2018 and reduced to 40.36 in June but the use of other antibiotics increased example Cefotaxime, Meropenem and Metronidazole which could lead to the resistance of microorganisms to the use of the antibiotics.
