Title: Simulation Study of Microtip Field Emitter Arrays in Triode Configuration
Abstract: ABSTRGCT Finite element analysis offield emitter arrays in both diode and triode mode are conducted to study electric fields at the tip as the tip-to-tip spacing varies. Simulation results show that, as the emitter to emitter spacing decreases, the decrease in jeld enhancement is less pronounced for the triode structure. The presence of gate seems to lessen the interaction between neighboring tips in the triode structure. Thus, it is possible to achieve a higher emitter density in triode mode which will lead to higher current density. Results also show that, as the emitter to emitter spacing decreases, the decrease in field enhancement becomes more prominent when tip is taller and sharpel; gate opening is wider and anode distance is shorter:
