Title: DIAGONAL CROSS SECTIONS OF THE QUATERNARY RECIPROCAL SYSTEM CONSISTING OF THE PYROPHOSPHATES AND CHLORIDES OF LITHIUM, SODIUM, AND POTASSIUM
Abstract: Following previously reported studies (Zhur. Neorg. Khim., 7: 1394(1962)), 2 diagonal cross sections of the Li, Na, K:: F, P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ system were investigated: the Li/sub 4/F/sub 4/Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/-- K/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ and K/sub 4/F/sub 4/-- Li/s ub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/-- Na/sub 4/P/ sub 2/O/sub 7/ areas, using visual and thermal methods. The first one contains the following limiting subsystems: Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/-- K/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/ sub 7/, representing a continuous solid solution with a minimum at 40% K/sub 4/P/ sub 2/O/sub 7/; Li/sub 4/F/sub 4/-- Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/, an unst able diagonal section of the Na, Li:: F, P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ system; and Li/sub 4/F/sub 4/ -- K/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/s ub 7/ a similarly unstable triangular diagonal of the same system. In the Li/sub 4/F/sub 4/-- Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/-- K/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/ sub 7/ ternary , 14 sections divided into 3 fields of Li/sub 4/F/sub 4/--Li/sub 4/ P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ and solid solutions (Na /sub 4/F/sub 4/)P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ were examined. The K/sub 4/F/sub 4/-- Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ system contains 4 crystallization areas, including the components, the reciprocal products of Na/ sub 4/F/sub 4/, and the compound xNa/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub yK/submore » 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ ; the latter is a decomposition product of the solid solutions of the Na + K pyrophosphates. The Li/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/-Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ system has a eutectic at 720 c- C and 38% Li/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/. In the K/sub 4/F/sub 4/-- Li/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/-- Na/sub 4/P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ system 15 sections were studied; they were found to consist of 6 fields which are joined in 4 monovariant points.
