Title: Surgical approaches to retinal detachment in retinopathy of prematurity.
Abstract: Outlined in this chapter are surgical approaches to retinal detachment in ROP. Technical details of the vitrectomy approach to stage V ROP are covered extensively in the chapters by Machemer and Charles. Late-onset retinal detachment is a rare complication. Two types of detachment, those associated with traction and those associated with retinal breaks or tears (rhegmatogenous), generally respond well to standard buckling procedures. The incidences of these complications provide reason for continued long-term follow-up of eyes with ROP.
