Abstract: No single test provides sufficient indication of the status of liver function, therefore a combination of several tests may be helpful for the clinical evaluation of patients with liver disease. The basic tests utilized in the assessment of liver disease are measurements of bilirubin, SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, total proteins with albumin and globulin, and prothrombin time. History, physical examination, liver biopsy, cholangiography, and a variety of invasive tests are now available to aid in the further differentiation of liver diseases.
