Title: Protective Effects of Orinithine Aspartate Against Impaired Liver Function Secondary to Chemotherapy for Malignant Tumors
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the protective effects of Orinithine Aspartate(OA)on impaired liver function secondary to chemotherapy for malignant tumors.Methods:102 patients with malignancy were randomized to receive chemotherapy alone,or OA-combined chemotherapy, where OA(7.5g IV drip daily)was used starting from day-1 onwards.Liver function in all patients was followed up every two weeks. Results:The rate of liver function impairment was lower in OA-combined group(10.8%)than in chemotherapy-alone group(29.4%)(χ2=6.22,P0.05).No case of degree III/IV liver impairment was found in OA-combine therapy.Rank-sum test showed a significant difference in severity distribution of liver function impairment between the two groups. Conclusion:Orinithine Aspartate was proved effective in prevention and treatment of impaired liver function secondary to chemotherapy for malignancy, which may improve patient tolerability and compliance to the treatment.
