Title: Influence of carbon source and C/N ratio on nitrogen removal of aerobic denitrifier
Abstract: The effects of carbon source and C/N ratio on denitrification of aerobic denitrifier were investigated in the batch culture under aerobic environment. The results showed that nitrate reductase activity was influenced by different carbon source. The nitrogen removal rate by using succinate and acetate was significantly higher than that by using malate. However, denitrification rate by using acetate was slightly higher than that by using succinate, in which a high denitrification rate (NO-3) of 11.86mg·g-1·h-1 was also achieved with acetate as the electron donor. It was found that nitrogen removal rate was above 90% with a C/N ratio of above 5 and nearly complete denitrification can be obtained at the optimal C/N ratio of 5~6. In the range of the C/N ratio of 1~14, nitrate reduction mainly occurred in the growth phase of the 4~10 hour and there was minim nitrite accumulation in the process.
