Title: The Prevalence of External Genital Diseases in 3 - 6 - year-Old Boys,
Abstract: Objective To study the prevalence of external genital diseases and their health status of 3 - 6-year old boys, in order to early diagnose and treat external genital diseases. Methods External genitals were examined among 1 444 3 - 6-year-old boys of 13 kindergartens in Dagang region. Results Redundant prepuce, phimosis, hydrocele, concealed penis, cryptorehidism and inguinal hernia accounted for 32.62%, 54.85%, 0,34%, 0.27% ,0.10% and 0.20% of external genital diseases respectively. Among boys who had redundant prepuce, 92.13% and 96.90% suffered from balanopoathitis because they cleansed the external genital area only at an interval of more than a week or never. Conclusions Redundant prepuce and phimosis are common among boy aged 3-6. External genital health education should be given to parents, children and caregivers. Examination of the genitalia should be emphasized to diagnose and treat external genital diseases.
