Title: Evaluation of AIDS education among 8th grade students in Huaiyuan,Anhui
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effects of AIDS education through distributing composition notebooks with key AIDS messages and writing articles about AIDS in the notebooks among 8th grade students in Huaiyuan,Anhui.Methods The new notebooks were distributed among 8th grade students in Huaiyuan and students were instructed to write articles about AIDS in the notebook.A baseline survey and an assessment survey were conducted before and after the intervention using the same sampling method and questionnaire,in order to assess the effect of the AIDS education activity.Results The AIDS awareness rate increased from 23.9% at baseline to 82.5% after intervention(P0.01).After intervention,the awareness rates for the two questions related to sex were still lower than 80%.The awareness rate of methadone was still less than 50% after the intervention.Conclusion The activity of distributing composition notebooks with key AIDS messages and writing AIDS related articles could significantly increase AIDS awareness rate.And there is a need to add some specific activities to increase the knowledge about some unusual messages.
