Title: Efficacy of Benazepril Combined with Amiodarone in Elderly Patients with Hypertension and Atrial Fibrillation
Abstract: Objective To observe the efficacy of benazepril combined with amiodarone for preventing the recurrence of atrial fibrillation(AF) in elderly patients with hypertension. Methods After drug, electrical or automatic cardioversion,84 patients with primary hypertension and persistent or paroxysmal AF were randomly assigned to receive amiodarone combined with either benazepril(treatment group,n=42) or amlodipine(control group,n=42) for 18 months. The maintenance rate of sinus rhythm, incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events and blood pressure were observed after treatment for 18 months. Results The sinus rhythm maintenance rate in treatment group(80.9%) was higher than that in control group(73.8%) after treatment for 6 months, but the difference was not significant between the two groups(P0.05).After treatment for 12 and 18 months, the sinus rhythm maintenance rate was,respectively,71.4% and 61.9% in treatment group, and 57.1% and 40.5% in control group. The differences were obvious between the two groups(P0.05).After treatment for 18 months, blood pressure significantly decreased in both groups(P0.05),but no obvious difference was found between the two groups(P0.05).During the treatment, the incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in treatment group(4.9%)was lower than that in control(7.1%),but the differe-nce was not significant between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion The combined treatment with benazepril and amiodarone is superior to amlodipine combined with amiodarone for reducing the recurrence of AF in patients with hypertension and AF.
