Title: Vitrectomy for infectious endophthalmitis after retained intraocular foreign bodies
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the treatment and prognosis of infectious endophthalmitis after retained intraocular foreign bodies using vitrectomy.Methods:The clinical data of 26 patients(26 eyes)with infectious endophthalmitis after retained intraocular foreign bodies treated with vitrectomy were analyzed retrospectively.Results:Retained intraocular foreign bodies in 26 eyes were removed and intraocular infections in 25 eyes were controlled.During a follow-up of 2~21 months(average 7.6 months),visual acuities were 0.02~0.09 in 3 cases(11.5%),0.1 or better in 8 cases(30.8%).Conclusions:Vitrectomy is an effective treatment for infectious endophthalmitis after retained intraocular foreign bodies.Many factors related with the prognosis.The prevention of intraocular foreign body injuries and the treatment of postoperative complications should be managed properly.
