Title: Subject Survey of the Lead Hazards in Lead-Exposing Workplaces
Abstract: [Objective]To learn the lead hazards in factories and enterprises of Baoshan District of Shanghai and prevent the occurrence of lead poisoning.[Methods]Workers in 9 factories were tested with questionnaires,and the air concentration of lead in workplaces was determined.[Results]112 air samples in 20 workplaces were examined,among which 4 STEL and 5 TWA exceeded the allowable air concentration.The air concentration of lead in battery manufacturing workplace was the highest,and the maximum STEL was 0.56 mg/m.Occupational health examination data during 1997~2004 were colleted,407 out of 492 lead exposed workers were healthy.There were 42 workers whose urine lead level was higher than 70μg/L. Average urine lead level of these workers was 32.2μg/L.76 workers were suffering from diseases like hypertension and others.[Conclusion]Lead hazard is serious in some workplaces,where the manufacturing process is mainly manual.Occupational hygienic protection facilities should be improved and occupational health education should be provided for the lead-exposed workers in order to prevent and control the occurrence of occupational lead poisoning.
