Title: Intervention study for type 1 diabetes mellitus in children by health education and nutrition
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of health education and nutrition intervention for children's type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM).Methods Eighty-two children diagnosed of T1DM were selected for 6 months intervention.During the hospitalized period and 6 months following hospital discharge,health education and nutrition intervention were performed on the patients.The awareness rate of knowledge about T1DM of the parents was assessed before and after the intervention.The health behaviors,fasting blood glucose,glycosylated hemoglobin and the growth of the children were also assessed among groups.Results The awareness rate of knowledge about T1DM of the parents was higher than before and the health behaviors of the children were formed.The levels of fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin were lower in the diet-controlled group than in the others.Conclusions Health education and nutrition intervention are effective in T1DM treatment.
