Abstract: Metaphor is a kind of poetic language and poetry is the cream of language. Though metaphor is very popular in any form of language, it is best used in poetry. Therefore, it is of great necessity to discuss different cultural identities of poetic metaphors in the intercultural studies so as to make better communication in poetry. The thesis attempts to discuss some differences between Chinese and English culture mainly in such cultural concepts as values and myths through some commonly cited significant poetic themes with metaphorical orientations such as “birds”, “moon”, “flowers” and “rivers”.
