Title: Treatment of secretory otitis media:a case review
Abstract: Objiective To report outcomes of treatment of secretory otitis media(SOM) with myringotomy,myringotomy with medicine application to the middle ear and tympanostomy tubes.Methods From January 2006 to December 2008,168 patients with SOM were surgically treated by the authors,of whom 40(67ears) were followed from 6 months to 3 years.Their symptomologic,audiometric,tympanometric and tympanic membrane examination outcomes were reviewed.Results The rate of complete resolution was 55.56% with simple myringotomy 74.19% with mringotomy with medicine application to the middle ear.There was no significant difference between myringotomy and myringotomy with medicine application to the middle ear.Conclusion Myringotomy and myringotomy with medicine application to the middle ear are both effective in treatment of SOM.
