Title: Characteristic of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome and it′s prognosticative value
Abstract: Objective To observe the characteristics of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS) and evaluate the prognosticative value of carotid ultrasound. Methods The 156 patients were classified into three groups according to the result of coronary angiography(CAG): ACS group、stable angina group and non-coronary artery disease group. All patients were examined by carotid ultrasound respectively and to observe their characteristics of carotid atherosclerosis( including IMT、plaque and it's character),the relationship between the carotid ultrasound and CAG was evaluated. Results The more soft plaques and mix plaques of carotid arteries were detected in patients with ACS,Coronary artery stenosis was significantly correlated to carotid atherosclerosis. Statistical P0.05. Positive carotid ultrasound predicted ACS with sensitivity of 68.3%,specificity of 85.6%and accuracity of 83.0%. Conclusions Patients with ACS had more soft plaques and mix plaques in carotid arteries. Carotid atherosclerosis is close related to coronary artery stenosis. Positive carotid artery ultrasound can predicted ACS early with high specificity and accuracity.
