Title: Study on ful-sib progeny test and selection of plus trees in Pinus massoniana
Abstract: Based on the investigation of the growth status of 5-year-old ful-sib and half-sib progenies, the genetic variances and the heritabilities of different families were analysed and the genetic gain and selection efficiency were estimated. Twelve excellent families were selected from the 48 families, their genetic gain of average tree height, average DBH and average individual volume was 3.1%, 8.0% and 18.6%, respectively. Forty plus trees were further selected from the excellent families of high combining ability of female parents by the manner of union selection and backward selection, with average tree height 5.2 m, average DBH 9.0 cm and average individual volume 0.0181 m3, and their genetic gain was 18.1%, 42.4% and 117.5%, respectively. Double genetic gain would be obtained by the method of union selection, this could improve the yield of P.massoniana timber platation.
