Title: Effect Evaluation on Health Literacy Intervention in Rural Residents of Luogang District in Guangzhou
Abstract: Objective To understand the change of the health literacy among rural residents of Luogang District in Guangzhou,to evaluate the impact of health education on health literacy,and to provide the evidence for developing health education and intervention in countryside. Methods One-year comprehensive health education was conducted in the residents of two pilot villages in Luogang District. Questionnaire survey was conducted before and after the health education,and then the intervention effect was evaluated. Results Totally 860 subjects had attended the baseline investigation and of them 436 were from the pilot villages. The intervention effect was evaluated among 335 subjects of intervention group and 240 ones of control group. Comparison of the investigation results of baseline and intervention stages in intervention group showed that the rate of the correct attitude towards health was improved from 40.4% to 92.5%,the average awareness rate of health knowledge was improved from 46.3% to 67.9%,the health behavior forming rate was improved from 63.9% to 77.4%,and the difference was statistically significant (All P0.05). After the intervention,health knowledge,correct attitude towards health,health behavior,and health skills of the residents in intervention group were significantly improved as compared with those of control group,and the difference was statistically significant (P0.05). Conclusions Developing health education and health promotion on health literacy in rural areas can effectively increase the residents' the awareness rate of health knowledge,the health behavior forming rate,and the grasp rate of health skills and improve the level of health literacy of rural residents.
