Title: Analysis of the Effects of Clinical Pharmacists Intervening in Perioperative Prophylactic Application of Antibiotics in Orthopedic Department of Our Hospital
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of clinical pharmacists intervening in perioperative prophylactic application of antibiotics in orthopedic department of our hospital. METHODS: By using retrospective method, medical records of inpatients in orthopedic department of our hospital during Jan.~Jun. 2008 (before intervention) and Jan.-Jun. 2010 (after intervention) were analyzed statistically. RESULTS: After intervention of perioperative prophylactic application of antibiotics, the rate of unreasonable drug use had reduced from 86.00% to 31.00%, and the average cost of antibiotics per capita had declined from 296.32 yuan to 89.56 yuan. CONCLUSIONS:The rate of rational drug use increases significantly after clinical pharmacists intervene in perioperative prophylactic application of antibiotics in orthopedic department.
