Title: Occupational lead hazards among workers in battery manufacture enterprise
Abstract: Objective To study lead hazards among workers with occupational lead exposure. Methods A lead-acid battery manufacturing enterprise was investigated and the air lead concentrations were detected.Physical examination and questionnaire survey were carried out among the workers. Results The time-weighted average concentrations of lead were 0.23,0.42,0.24,0.41mg/m3 and 6.40,12.60,15.67,15.33 times higher than that of acceptable concentration for working sites of package film, assembly, welding, and bridge welding, respectiverly. Moreover, the average blood lead(Pb-B) content for 110 workers was 434.21±127.55μg/L and the maximum was 800.10μg/L.There was no statistically difference in Pb level between workers of different age, working time, monthly income, nationality, and education level.Statistically significant difference was found in Pb-B levels among workers with different status of working task, smoking, alcohol drinking, and gender. Conclusion Lead hazards is serious among the workers in the battery manufacturing enterprise and occupational health supervision and lead exposure control measures should be enforced.
