Title: Surgical treatment of subluxation syndrome of the patella.
Abstract: From July 1983 to September 1985, eight patients with subluxation syndrome of the patella were treated surgically. Their mean age at operation was 21 years, with a range of 14 to 45 years. Six patients had haemarthrosis and four patients had osteochondral fracture. Lateral release and medial reefing was performed in two patients and arthroscpic lateral release was performed in six patients. Fragments were removed in all patients with osteochondral fracture. In both procedures, results were clinically and roentgenographically satisfactory. The follow up period is short, however, we believe that arthroscopic lateral release is valuable for initial surgical treatment of subluxation syndrome of the patella.
