Title: A Model for Patellar Resection in Total Knee Arthroplasty
Abstract: Inaccurate patellar resection in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to an asymmetric patella, a patella that is too thick, or one that is too thin, which may result in accelerated wear, pain, or periprosthetic patellar fracture. We describe a method of planing the patella that is both easy to perform and reproducible using an instrument called a patella planer. We have found patellar planing to be an easy and consistently reproducible method to resect the patella evenly to the exact desired thickness, avoiding uneven or undesired patella thickness.
