Title: GRAVIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE TOTAL RARE EARTHS IN ROCKS, MINERALS AND ALLOYS
Abstract: A method was developed for the gravimetric determination of the total rare earths in rocks, minerals, and alloys after their pre liminary chlorination by the Iordanov -Daiev method. By means of /sup 144/Ce and /sup 90/Y radioisotopes it was shown that when the total rare earths are separated by the suggested method the losses do not exceed 5-25% at the rare earth content in the samples of n x 10/sup -2/--n x 10/sup -3/% The gravimetric method for the determination of the total rare earths after separation of the bulk of accompanying elements by chlorination can be used for the analysis of various natural and industrial products. The advantage of this method is the possibility of reliable separtion of down to 5 X 10/sup -3/% of the total rare earths as well as the possibility of determination of individual rare earths by the paper chromatographic and x-ray spectrographic methods.
