Title: OPTICAL-ROTATION DOSIMETRY FOR Co$sup 60$ GAMMA FACILITIES
Abstract: When cehain pure organic chemical compounds are exposed to gamma radiation, they rotate a beam of polarized light because of the asymmetric carbon atoms in their molecular structure. Since the amount of rotation depends on the intensity of the gamma radiation to which the compounds are exposed, changes in optical activity of the chemical solutions can give a measure of dose. Using this opticalrotation dosimetry theory, new dosimetry procedures for Co/sup 60/ gamma facilities have been developed. (R.J.S.)
