Title: Library as Place: What Students Value in a Performing Arts Library
Abstract: Library collections, spaces, and technologies are evolving at a rapid pace. Understanding why students come to the library, what they do, their preferred environments, needed technologies, and how library services fit into this changing paradigm allows librarians to plan, adapt, and remain relevant. This study used focus groups, user-observed data, and a survey tool to determine students’ preferences and most frequent activities in an academic performing arts library. Findings indicated that most students used the library to write papers and study, and their preferences included quiet study spaces, available technologies, and staff expertise.
