Title: Effect of amount of nitrogen fertilizer on physical properties and aroma quality of flue-cured tobacco.
Abstract: Field experiments were carried out to study the effects of different nitrogen fertilizers on the physical properties, chemical components and aroma quality of a tobacco cultivar,Jiyan 9. The results showed that physical properties were totally poor, chemical componets of tobacco leaves and aroma constitutents were not harmonious in the treatments with amount of nitrogen fertilizer below 60 kg/hm2;there were more roma constitutents in the treatments with 67.5 kg/hm2 nitrogen fertilizer than that of the treatment with 60 kg/hm2,while treatments with 60 kg/hm2 nitrogen fertilizer could improve physical properties, the content of cembranenoids, carotenoids and browning reaction products of flavor components, furthermore, its chemical components and aroma constituents were harmonious. The quality of aroma of the leaves in cake fertilizer treatment was pure and full. It suggested that 60 kg/hm2 nitrogen fertilizer was the foundation for increasing the flavor quality of tobacco leaves.
