Title: Stimulated Raman Scattering of a Laser in a Beam Plasma Channel
Abstract: A laser propagating through a preformed plasma channel, in the presence of a co-propagating electron beam, undergoes stimulated Raman backscattering (SRB). For 2k0 v0b0 > ωp0, where k0 is the wave number of the laser, ωp0 is the plasma frequency on the channel axis and v0b0 is the beam velocity, the backscattering is caused by the ponderomotive force driven beam mode and one obtains upper sideband generation. For 2k0 v0b0 ≈ ωp0 one obtains lower sideband generation. In both cases, however, the growth is reduced due to non-local effects.
