Title: The South Pacific — a new region for confrontations?
Abstract: By the early 21st century, the Pacific Ocean will be the world's major waterway. The strategic significance of the North Pacific is already established, but the South Pacific has been neglected by most strategic studies. In this article the author attempts to rectify this imbalance by highlighting a number of potential conflict areas that may soon force the South Pacific to the forefront of international politics.
