Abstract: Argon-filled and xenon-filled three-anode proportional counters were designed so as to attain the quantum counting efficiency of about 90% for CuKα and MoKα radiation, respectively. Important properties of these counters are compared with those of NaI(Tl)scintillation counter. These proportional counters have remarkable superiority over NaI(Tl)scintillation counter in monochromatization effect upon the characteristic radiation in use of a pulse-height analyzer, though their quantum counting efficiencies for the characteristic radiation are almost the same. A stabilizer of X-ray tube output utilizing an ionization chamber with balanced filters as a monitor was also constructed. High stability was attained without accurate regulation of the tube voltage.
