Title: Inorganic Radicals Trapped in Glasses at Room Temperature. IV. Silver Radicals in Metaphosphate Glass
Abstract: The effect of x irradiation on silver-activated metaphosphate glass was investigated. The optical and ESR absorptions were measured and assigned to Ag2+, Ag2+ and Ag0. Their optical bands have maxima at 275, 315, and 365 mμ, respectively. The silver atoms, stable at 77°K, show little chemical interaction with the matrix. A new color center which belongs to the base glass has been identified. It results from the reaction of electrons with the phosphate polymers and exhibits a large hyperfine coupling. Its nature is discussed.
