Abstract: The differential decay rates of $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ for the most general local interaction are presented. It is shown that recently published data on $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\gamma}$ imply an upper limit on the branching ratio for $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ of 5 \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}8}$ with 90% confidence. This is almost two orders of magnitude better than the existing experimental limit. Gauge models which allow a larger rate for $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ than for $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\gamma}$ are discussed.
