Title: Taxonomic significance of enzyme polymorphism among isolates of Pleurotus (Basidiomycetes) from umbellifers
Abstract: Mycelial extracts of 24 ‘wild’ dikaryotic isolates representing the three types of Pleurotus growing on umbellifers, selected from different geographical areas, were subjected to acrylamide disk electrophoresis. Profiles for esterase, aminopeptidase and phosphatase activities were determined. For each enzyme pattern, calculated affinities and genetic distances generally indicate that P. nebrodensis can be distinguished from P. eryngii and P. ferulae which are more related. The taxonomic values of such approaches for basidiomycetes (macromycetes) are emphasized.
