Title: Transport Code Study of Electron Cyclotron Heating in Tokamaks
Abstract: In order to simulate the electron cyclotron heating (ECH) in tokamak plasmas, one-dimensional tokamak transport code is combined with an electron cyclotron wave ray-tracing code, which includes electromagnetic ordinary and extraordinary waves and the mode-converted Bernstein wave. The code is applied to the ECH experiment on the ISX-B tokamak and a fairly good agreement is obtained between the calculation and the experiment. Some heating characteristics of ECH are also examined for both medium size (ISX-B) and small size (WT-2) tokamak parameters. It is revealed that the position of the electron cyclotron resonance layer affects significantly the local heating efficiency.
