Title: Analytical selection of ideal epitaxial configurations and some speculations on the occurrence of epitaxy II. Epitaxy of (111) f.c.c. overlayers on (110) b.c.c. substrates
Abstract: Abstract The model has been extended for the analytical selection of ideal epitaxial configurations of overlayers with rhombic meshes on (110) b.c.c. substrates. For the first time the occurrence of the so-called Nishiyama-Wasserman and Kurdjumov-Sachs orientations between (111) f.c.c. aad (110) b.c.c. meshes have been properly predicted on energetic grounds, and shown to be in satisfactory agreement with observations in a table in which f.c.c. and b.c.c. crystals were ordered according to the ratio r = b/a of the lattice parameters of the interfacial rhombic overlayer and substrate meshes. The dependence of the epitaxial strengths of the ideal configurations on the Fourier coefficients of the overlayer-substrate interaction potential has been determined. The properties of the model for application to rigid-model epitaxy have been briefly demonstrated and some values of the important configurational parameter l, relating the atom-atom interaction in the overlayer with overlayer-substrate interaction, have been estimated.
