Title: Solid and hazardous waste disposal site selection using digital geographic information system techniques
Abstract: To identify potential sites for the storage of industrial wastes it is necessary to specify the industrial location constraint criteria, collect the required data, and model this information. This paper first summarizes the type of industrial location constraint criteria that might be imposed. Examples then demonstrate how the required in situ and remotely sensed data can be placed in a geographic information system (GIS) to model and identify candidate waste sites. A case study based on an industrial activity in the southeastern United States is used to demonstrate the utility of using GIS technology.
