Abstract: Applied behavior analysis uses the understanding of behavioral mechanisms to manipulate the environment and effect behavior change. Functional assessments identify reinforcers maintaining problem behavior using direct and indirect data collection strategies. After the function(s) of problem behavior have been confirmed or hypotheses have been made, interventions are designed and implemented. Behavior change strategies include antecedent interventions and training alternative behaviors that serve the same function as the problem behavior. Data are collected before, during, and after intervention, and all changes in treatment are based on these data.
